Welcome to Howard Winter's HomepageAny Browser will do!

This is my first attempt at a web page, and as with almost all of them it will be in a state of development for most of its life. As a start there's a photo of me and a response form, in case anyone without their own e-mail wants to send me a message. It is also an anonymous route to contact me - I can't get back to you unless you want to allow it. You never know when that will be handy! Please don't abuse it. Watch this space for new stuff as I get round to it...

By typing in these boxes and pressing Send Form you can send me a message. The system will not give me your e-mail address, so I can't reply if you don't enter it, but it will show the IP address and maybe the host name of the machine/ISP you are using. If you want to write to me completely securely, use a system which has no link to you, such as an Internet Cafe.

Notes: All fields are optional. Text in the large box may not line-wrap - it's down to your browser and I can't do anything about it - sorry!

Embarassing Kilt Photo
This photo is me at my Brother's wedding in Edinburgh, in 1998. His wife is Scots, and I was an usher, so I had to wear the kilt! I found out some interesting things that day - kilts are Heavy! and you have to keep in mind which way you are facing if you put your foot on something to do up your shoelaces...

Click here to have a look at my garden, live. You can also see what time it is here (above the picture). If it doesn't respond, it's switched off at the moment.

Security & Encryption:

I used to be a Notary in the Thawte "Web of Trust", but they discontinued this free service and now only sell certificates.

But you can send me PGP encrypted files and messages.

These are my PGP Public Keys - please use either if you want to send me secure email: RSA (1024) DSS (1024/4096)
And these are the fingerprints:

Amateur Radio:
I am a Radio Amateur ("Ham") and have had a licence, callsign G1BYY, since 1983. I am a keen member of the Mid-Herts RAYNET group. RAYNET ("Radio Amateurs' Emergency Network" - don't try to fit it to the acronym!) members are volunteers who make themselves available to provide communications in emergencies and disasters. To make sure we know what we're doing, we have regular training sessions, and provide communications to charity events, such as walks, runs, cycle rides, carnivals and so on, which is useful to us as practice, and to the organisers for keeping track of what's going on around the course. The national RAYNET organisation is Here and the Mid-Herts group is Here.

You can see a little more about my Amateur Radio activites on my QRZ entry by clicking on that link and entering G1BYY into the Search box. 73! (Morse abbeviation for "Best Wishes")
